We believe that public education should be universally accessible, be publicly funded and free for families, provide equal opportunities for students, engage in public decision-making, and serve the public interest

Educator Survey: Use of Personal Money to Subsidize K-12 Classrooms

In May 2024, People for Public Education Manitoba conducted a survey about fundraising in public schools. Respondents suggested that we should also explore the extent to which public school educators use their own personal funds to subsidize K-12 classrooms. As a result, People for Public Education created a survey to learn the extent to which educators in Manitoba contribute their own personal money and labour to address budget shortfalls.

Fundraising in Schools in Manitoba Report

To better understand perspectives surrounding school fundraising, People for Public Ed Manitoba distributed a survey in May 2024 for parents or guardians of students currently enrolled in Manitoba public schools. The survey was answered by 56 people and focused on their experiences with and perspectives of fundraising in public school. Note that school fundraising was defined as raising money or collecting resources to supplement taxation-based public funding and excludes fundraising for outside charities, such as Terry Fox runs.
